CARRY IT WITH YOU

I’m a first-generation to complete, accomplish and succeed at many things. Have you ever just taken a different path that was not paved for you to really take? I’m a person who decided, I can do whatever I set my mind to, even with no blueprint. As I go through time, I have realized that everyone goes through their own struggles. No matter how rich or poor. I realized that through those struggles, you gain valuable experience that can influence the total trajectory of your life. Carry it with you, is a story about being rooted, and embracing your lived experiences as strengths to the person you’re growing to be.

What People Are Saying

A lot of great people in this country have background stories that leave us in awe. I wish more of those people would drop a book halfway through life to let us know what their state of mind is while grinding away towards their dreams. Tenaj’s book does just that. It is crazy to see someone come from that kind of dark background and not only make it through but have the courage to be vulnerable about the pains of the journey. The great thing about this book is she is letting us in that journey. I enjoy this book a lot, I love seeing bold women overcoming big obstacles. Great book, it is a MUST read, especially for young women and survivors.

Let me just tell you, this woman has DEVOTED her life to changing lives, including myself! This girl does not come from a silver spoon & has faced hardships that make you wonder how she’s become the woman she is today.

Her strength is admirable & I can’t wait to read this book on her journey in hopes that it will inspire mines as well !!!

- AJAH

I really enjoyed reading this book! Of course, there were a lot of relatable moments, but it was also a great story about Tenaj’s life and life lessons that I thought were unique and heartwarming. She highlights the beauty in the struggle. As a kindred spirit, I want everyone to win, while also enjoying the ride of life.

I didn't want this book to end and I hope there will be more! There's a lot of good things I could go on about, but I'll just say I highly recommend it and I think you'll love it too.

Tenaj’s story is candid and moving, and not readily apparent when interacting with her. Her friendly and inclusive demeanor would not suggest she has lived the trials she has, however after reading it becomes clear why she has become a strong leader and accepting advocate. If you’re looking for, “real talk,” then this book highlights the reality for thousands of people. Thankfully, Tenaj has used her voice to share an intimate portion of her life and soul in hopes it helps others.

MORE ABOUT ME..

Tenaj Moody's intersecting identities as an Afro-Latina millennial raised in North Philadelphia, who survived domestic violence, poverty, and having a parent who was incarcerated growing up, quickly taught Tenaj the power of story. Stories can touch, teach, motivate, challenge, and inspire people to create change. Tenaj's accompanying personal testimonies rooted in these lived experiences have fostered an unwavering commitment to shift the narrative through the power of story. She has used her story as a catalyst to drive her to become a first-generation in her family to go to college, and pursue her career as an educator, speaker, criminal justice activist, victim advocate, and business owner of a domestic violence program called Light to Life.
